Timelime keeps crashing
Timelime keeps crashing when I open the main window. The problems seems to be when the app is trying to animate the Pie chart view. The app will crash repeatedly until I can click on the Timings view and stop the chart loading.

Hi Ben,
Thank you for reporting this bug!
I’m unable to reproduce it though.
I’d be very helpful to know:
What’s the Mac model and macOS version you are running Timelime on?
Does it only happen when the Pie chart is selected or with other charts as well?
Thanks again,
Niko

Hi Niko,
Thanks for replying. Here’s the info you requested:
Mac model: iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)
CPU: 4Ghz Quad-Core Intel i7
Memory: 32GB
OS: macOS Big Sur v11.2.1
Timelime: v1.7.3
Hours logged: 7261
The crash seems to happen most often when there is a timer running, although it will also sometimes crash when I have the main window open and start a timer from the menu bar. It really is very random - which makes the problem even more annoying.
I have also tried deleting and reinstalling the app, but this has not helped either. Is there an application log or similar that I can send you?
Ben

Yes, please forward the crash reports.
If you open Applications > Utilities > Console app, you can click on “Crash Reports” in the sidebar.
Then right-click on one of the crash reports that originate from Timelime and select “Reveal in Finder”.
Then please zip the Timelime *.crash files and send them to my email [email blocked] or attach them here.
I‘ll try find out what causes the crashes.

Thanks Ben. With the crash log I’m able to narrow down the cause a bit..
I’d be good if you have one or two more recent ones.
It never crashes when “Timings” view is selected in Timelime’s main window, correct?

Here’s 3 more logs from the past 24 hours
Yes, the problem only seems to occur when one of the graph tabs is selected. The Timings view seems to be fine.

Cool, thanks.
I’m still unable to reproduce the crash. But I know now what causes it. I’ll try to fix it in code and will get back to you.

Hi Niko,
I have been testing the new Timelime update for a few days now and the app hasn’t crashed at all. Whatever the problem was, you seem to have fixed it.
Thanks so much for your hard work,
Ben
